marking with red duct tape on stub walls where receptacles will go.  the dirt, trusses, beams, board-by-board.  a home with a floor-plan from the heart; being built strong and steady like blood running through veins.  it is us.

thankful for it all

sunshine or rain

it is quiet

rain is hitting the side of the house

the yard is a pond

should i make a batch of chili

bake a pie

i need to be planning my garden

my to-do list is a mile long

i watch otis and margaux from the foggy kitchen window

shifting their body weight from one side to the other on tired legs

the rain eases up

and the yard fills with robins and sparrows alike

chirping 

pecking 

worm filled bellies

clean from standing water

and then

i'm instantly reminded.

ICICLE NOSE HORSE

the threat of cold blares on broadcasts

and the fresh water for the animals freezes before filled

the unwelcomed wind seeps in windows 

piercing crevices and cracks

making blanketed hair stand on end 

the clock ticks

the heat hums

and the temperature keeps falling

if only the sun will hurry

3 am pacing

water dripping

pipes freezing

four legged shivering

the sun's on her way

impatient for her heat

I suit up

the rigid ground crunches

and I find my own little sunshine

with instant warmth

and an icicle nose.

BEAUTY

REMEMBER

HE is there

in the thick fog that you breathe

in the rain drop on your cheek

and the million more on the pine tree

in your husbands hurry up-slow down

in the silence interrupted by the hawks screech

in the turkey flock that scatters into the woods

in all your dreams

in what you're making home.
